For the first time since 2019, the Ohio State Fair has returned, and it isn’t holding back on its annual butter sculpture tradition.

According to a release from the American Dairy Association Mideast, this year’s butter display utilized a record-breaking 2,530 pounds of butter. Typically, displays average around 2,000 pounds.

With 10 individual life-size sculptures, this year’s display depicts a farm fair scene with children proudly displaying their animals. The sculptures tap into the fair’s long agricultural history, the release said.

As always, the classic butter cow is featured, but the 2022 display also includes other butter livestock for the first time ever. It incorporates a pig, a lamb and a chicken.

According to the American Dairy Association Mideast, the display was crafted by sculptors who worked for hundreds of hours in a 46-degree cooler in order to keep the butter at a shapeable consistency.
