A power outage Thursday on Staten Island impacted over 900 residents in Rossville

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A power outage Thursday evening on Staten Island prompted a response from Con Edison crews.

Customers in Rossville experienced a disruption in service just before 6 p.m. According to a spokesperson for Con Edison, 903 customers were affected. The outage lasted from 5:33 p.m. to 7:02 p.m.

The outage was caused by a downed wire down at Huguenot Avenue and Arthur Kill Road, the spokesperson said. It is unclear what brought the wire down.

New York City Emergency Management had advised residents without power to avoid using generators indoors, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to prevent food spoilage and dial 911 in the event of a life-threatening medical emergency.
