It's not what you would expect to find on the second floor of a lively beer hall, but that's kind of the point.

Federal Hill will gain a speakeasy this week with the opening of The Wurst Bar, a quiet cocktail spot on the upper level of Crossbar der Biergarten.

The speakeasy's German-inspired name is about all it has in common with the Cross Street beer garden, popular for its picnic tables, sausages and two-liter boots of beer.

Tucked away up the stairs and accessed through a walk-in cooler door, "The Wurst" is dimly lit and decorated with a green-and-gold color scheme, leather booths and vintage paintings. There are just two beers on the drink menu, which focuses instead on classic cocktails like Gimlets, Sazeracs and Vespers, a spin on the martini pioneered by James Bond.
