While food television fans love competition shows, the newest Food Network offering sprinkles some timely, savvy shopping advice into the kitchen. On the new Food Network show, Big Bad Budget Battle, Ree Drummond brings together some home cooks who know how to whip up a delicious meal while keeping food costs in check. What tips will viewers apply on their next trip to the grocery store?

Anyone who has to fill the fridge with food appreciates that the wallet is getting hit hard. Previously, people would stand at the refrigerator, look at the overflowing shelves and feel overwhelmed with what is there to eat. Now, the shelves are less robust, but the question remains. What recipe is both tasty and cost efficient.

In the new Big Bad Budget Battle, home cooks put their cooking and shopping skills to the test. While the FlavorTown Market might not be the typical grocery store, this food television competition has many applications beyond the screen.

Given that many people turn to Ree Drummond for practical, delicious recipes, this new Food Network show will have a built-in audience. More importantly, the real-world application could have even more people watching and taking notes.

As Drummond said, “I can’t wait for viewers to see these awesome home cooks in action, both with their creativity in the kitchen and their budget-shopping skills – they are truly something to behold! As a home cook myself, I’m impressed by their resourcefulness and ingenuity as they plan, shop, and prepare their incredible dishes.”

In addition to Drummond, several other Food Network chefs will join the judging panel. From Eddie Jackson to Darnell Ferguson, there familiar faces are many.

Throughout the six-week series, the home cooks will face two challenges per episode. From re-imagining leftovers to maximizing pantry ingredients, these concepts have real world applications.

And, if the name has the signature alliteration featured in other Food Network shows, there is a good reason. Big Bad Budget Battle is produced by Guy Fieri and his production company Knuckle Sandwich. Although Guy won’t be in the Flavortown Market, this show should have some of his signature flare.

Big Bad Budget Battle is set to premiere on Food Network on Tuesday August 9 at 10pm ET/PT. It will also be available to stream the same day on discovery+.
